How to Make School Fundraisers Great Again in 2020

3 Things to know that can restore greatness to any fundraiser in 2020

Most teachers already have their hands full with so many other things. So who has time for School Fundraisers anyway?

Everyone’s looking for ways to raise money that won’t take a lot of time or effort.
Wouldn’t it be great if you could get away with putting in less work but still meet your fundraising goals? Unfortunately, it just doesn’t work that way. If you want results, you have to put in the work. But working hard is only have the battle. You also have to work smart and know where to focus your efforts.

Here are 3 areas to focus your efforts on so you can have your best fundraiser ever:

1. Proper Fundraising Promotion

Joe Garecht from The Fundraising authority offers some valuable tips for publicizing your fundraiser. Here are some additional ideas you should incorporate into your sale:
  • Announce your sales every day. Prepare different scripts for the announcer. Make it fun and interesting to your students.
  • Promote your sale on your marquee. Be creative here as well.
  • Create poster-sized sales tracking charts that each teacher can post outside their classroom along with each student’s name. Every time a goal is met, students can place a star next to their name. Many students enjoy competing with their peers.
  • Another option is to place a large poster-sized paper on the wall near the office. As soon as a student reaches the fundraising goal they get to sign their name. The poster can be titled ‘Fundraiser Wall of Fame’.
  • Announce your big prizes every day whether you plan to give away a top seller prize or have a grand prize drawing.

2. Keep Parents Updated

Reminding your students about your fundraiser each day is vital, yet it’s just as important to keep your parents informed. Ultimately, it’s the parents who decide on whether their students end up participating in your event or not.
  • First, make sure your parents know why you’re raising money.
  • Send home reminder notices to your parents. We offer preprinted templates in our School Fundraising Guidebook.
  • Post information about your sale on your school website. Some companies provide a link that allows you to place their logo or information on your site.
  • Place promotional signs in front of the school where parents pick up their students.
  • Put posters in or around the main office area.
  • Feature your big prizes in your display case so parents can see them and include a brief description of how students can win.
  • Once your sale is over let your parents know how the fundraiser performed and what the timeline is for spending the money. Keeping them updated both during and afterward helps build trust for any future endeavors, especially when they get to see the fruits of your labor.
  • Most importantly, thank them for helping your cause.

3. Use Fundraiser Incentives

Adding incentives to your fundraiser can make a big difference. Most students want the latest and greatest; however, these items tend to be more expensive. To ensure a good return on your investment, you should also have a good promotional strategy in place. Yet if you have a good understanding of what motivates your students, you can choose incentives that don’t cost that much. Or, you can even use special privileges that won’t cost anything at all. For example:

  • Incorporate prize drawing coupons into your daily announcements. Every time a student reaches a certain goal, they can drop their coupon into a drawing box for a chance to win a prize. Students love to hear their name announced and others will hear it and be motivated as well.
  • Every time a student reaches a new fundraising goal, have them ‘high-five’ the principal.
  • Get the principal to agree to do something fun if the school reaches its goal. Make sure and announce it every day during your sale.
The nice thing about using special privileges is the rewards can be intrinsic rather than extrinsic. You can easily incorporate available school resources and customize your incentives any way you like.

Is the Why Behind Your High School Fundraiser Enough?

Learn why you shouldn’t depend solely on your high school fundraising purpose to achieve your financial goals Everyone knows that there are countless reasons that school fundraising groups  need money. The question is, is your purpose alone enough to inspire your students to want to make sales?   For example, an elementary school may think that people are acutely aware that the school needs new library books or learning software for its students. Therefore, because there is what the school thinks is an obvious need, the motivation to want to raise money will automatically be there. A high school soccer team has to pay for travel expenses, tournament fees, and uniforms. And since the soccer players want to travel so they can play, they’ll eagerly want to take care of this need otherwise they won’t get to go. It’s worth pointing out that there is a difference in how the purpose can help motivate groups based on the type and size. As a rule, smaller groups tend to a...

Why School Fundraisers Need Better Incentives

Learn how to make your school fundraising great again The only people who seem excited about incentives for  School Fundraisers  are the students at the kickoff assembly. Companies do a great job of hyping the prizes, but we all know they never deliver in the end. Once all is said and done, most students win cheap dollar store prizes while a limited few get the “better” ones. To win the better prizes, a lot of items have to be sold. Unfortunately, students don’t figure this out until the hype of the kickoff assembly has past and they’ve had a chance to review the prize flyer. As a result, most become discouraged and end up not even try to sell. Others start selling, but then realize that reaching the higher prize levels is more difficult than they initially thought and stop. Is it no wonder that most schools only achieve about 10-15% participation? And most who do participate will sell very little. What’s the Impact? Schools don’t stop and think of the p...

What Makes Cheerleader Fundraising Profitable for Companies?

Learn why cheerleader fundraisers typically raise more money per student than most other school groups. Any business transaction has to be a win for both sides. The school is looking for a company that’s going to help them raise the most money possible with the least amount of hassle. And obviously, the company wants the group to take full advantage of its resources.  What do we mean by that? We always look forward to when groups make the decision to work with us. We get even more excited when the group exceeds its financial objectives.  This means 2 things: The group is more likely to work with us again next time, and  We make more as well. In our 20 plus years of experience, we’ve found more high school cheerleader fundraising groups meet these 2 criteria than any other. Any company that’s worth their salt should make it a priority to provide sales tools designed to help groups increase the total amount of money they bring in. The best sales brochur...
