Improve cookie dough sales without spending money
It takes money to make money. Isn’t that what we always hear? It stands to reason that if you want to improve cookie dough fundraiser results, you need to offer bigger and better prizes so students will work harder and sell more for them.
Yet, not every PTA board has the extra spending money for these types of prizes. It’s definitely easier for some elementary schools to them than for others. What can you do if you don’t have the extra money in your budget but are looking for ideas to improve sales?
It turns out that you can still succeed without these expensive motivators and motivate your students to sell more than they normally would. How? You just need to be willing to be creative and put in a little extra work before the sale.
Here are 3 free ways that you can increase your school’s sales without spending any extra money.
1. Get the Principal Involved in Your Sale
Set a powerful tone by getting the principal involved in your fundraiser. Make an appointment to sit down and meet with them. This way you’ll have the time to outline your plan for them to be an active participant. Here are 3 things that you can get them to do:
1. Ask them if they would introduce your kickoff. Most students respect the principal and will likely take your fundraiser more seriously as a result. Make sure they understand the purpose and why it’s important that everyone get involved. Make sure the principal ends the assembly with some powerful closing remarks as well. It may be best if you prepare some sort of an outline.
2. Get them involved in your daily announcements. For instance, if you are incorporating prize drawing coupons, one of your incentives can be for the winners to have lunch with the principal. Have them describe to the students what this involves.
3. If they’re the outgoing type, ask them to do something crazy, outrageous or fun. But only if the school reaches a higher preset money goal. A ‘super seller’ goal can also be set for individual students who would get to do something unique and fun with, or to the principal. Here are some ideas:
- Kiss a pig, frog, goat, giant lizard or __________.
- Ride a tricycle everywhere they go around campus for a day.
- Color their hair some outrageous color.
- Spend a day camped out on the roof.
- Dress up in a funny costume or wear their pajamas to school.
2. Have a Strategic Cookie Dough Fundraiser Plan
Every sponsor understands that to experience a successful sale, they need to market their campaign to their students throughout their fundraiser. They should even start talking about their campaign before it starts.
This is where you can share information about some of the items that will be available in your brochure, introduce a few of the prizes, and what the money will be used for. Some schools are lucky enough to take advantage of ‘back to school night’ by introducing their sale to the parents at a pep rally.
During your sale, consider offering privileges instead of prizes for your drawings. Students can win unique and exclusive rewards like being the ‘Line Leader for the Day’, get a ‘Free Dress Day’ or ‘No Homework Pass’ by getting their name drawn out for selling 5 items.
3. Promote School Fundraising with Free Motivators
Who said you had to spend money to get good prize incentives?
- Incorporate a themed party into your cookie dough sale. Throw a DJ dance party for every student who sells at least 10 items. By the way, be sure and ask the principal to be the DJ.
- Take the time to visit local business owners and ask them to donate items like pizza for a party or actual prizes for top seller or grand prize drawings. Businesses may be looking for a little publicity and will do this because it’s good PR. It is not a bad idea to also tell a prospective business that you will talk about them to your parents at ‘back to school night’. Redeemable business coupons can be just as effective.
You really don’t have to spend money to improve catalog sales for your school. With a little extra work and creativity you can significantly surpass your goals.
